ALA and Well Read Television Series Announce Partnership
The American Library Association has teamed up with Well Read, the popular weekly public television program for those who love books and lively, engaging conversations with the authors. On each Well Read episode, series host Terry Tazioli introduces viewers to first time and best-selling authors, including Timothy Egan (the 2013 winner of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction, an award presented by ALA), Jodi Picoult, James McBride, and Amy Bloom, where lively conversations about characters and philosophies of the books reveal the author’s unique perspectives. Following the informal interview, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and former V.P. of the National Book Critics Circle Mary Ann Gwinn joins Terry to recommend other compelling books that share similar themes.
“Librarians have long played a pivotal role in shining a spotlight on great books through nationally renowned awards, Booklist reviews or by simply bringing great books to the public through carefully curated collections,” says Courtney Young, ALA President. “In addition to being a unique show, Well-Read is shining a spotlight on these unique functions of our profession through public television. I am eager to watch this partnership grow.”
“We are elated to be partnering with American Library Association,” said Well Read co-host Terry Tazioli. “Our hope is that Well Read will encourage reading and promote literacy by introducing people to fascinating, wonderful authors and helping them discover great new books. Libraries develop literate and informed communities through reading, so we at Well Read are excited to support those important efforts.”
